The Red Shirt Society
We believe that youth should be recognized and rewarded for outstanding achievement. We used the icon, because these kids are the bomb! Each month, a Youth of the Month is selected from all of the members at each Unit. These youth are chosen for their exemplary behavior, strong character, and active involvement in developmental activities. We are proud to present these outstanding youth here: (scroll down to see each month’s choice). The Club's T's come in an array of colors, but only a Youth of the Month can receive a red shirt.

The Formula for Impact:
Academic Success
Young people who drop out of high school significantly diminish their chances to secure a good job, earn a decent salary and have a promising future. Therefore, high school graduation is a priority outcome for Club Members.
The Formula for Impact:
Healthy Lifestyles
To achieve the priority outcome of Healthy Lifestyles, Members will adopt healthy diets, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness. Young people who develop healthy eating and exercise habits during childhood and adolescence are more likely to maintain these habits, along with the associated health benefits, into adulthood. Monitoring health-related factors such as physical activity, nutrition and physical fitness, as well as members’ avoidance of risky behaviors will help Clubs effectively target programming and interventions, and will enable Clubs and BGCA to demonstrate our positive impact on the health and well-being of members.
The Formula for Impact:
Good Character and Leadership
Good Character and Citizenship are integral to a young person’s ability to become a productive, caring, responsible citizen. Members’ participation in community service, avoidance of involvement with the juvenile justice system, and the development of conflict resolution skills are key indicators that our Clubs will use to demonstrate our positive impact on Members’ character and citizenship.
Our Club is
FUN
Our Clubs generates fun for our Members. Each child develops a strong sense of belonging through connections they establish with Staff and peers. Staff make our four Clubs feel like home, fostering a family atmosphere and creating a sense of ownership for our Members.
.
Our Club is
SAFE
Our Clubs are a safe haven where Members feel physically and emotionally secure at all times. Club Staff, facilities, program offerings and age-appropriate settings create stability, consistency and a sense of safety for members.
Our Club provides
SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS
Youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines develop meaningful relationships with peers and adults. Staff members actively cultivate such relationships to ensure that every member feels connected to one or more adults and peers. Staff members demonstrate warmth, caring, appreciation, acceptance and proper guidance in their interactions with members.
.
Our Club has
OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Our Club Members acquire physical, social, technological, artistic and life skills. We encourages our Members to develop moral character and behave ethically. Staff members establish and reinforce high expectations and help our young people to do well in school and to pursue a post-secondary education.
Our Club
RECOGNIZES OUR KIDS
We recognize and affirm our young people’s self-worth and accomplishments. Staff members encourage our youth and provide positive reinforcement as they make improvements and experience successes. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines showcase young people’s achievements through our Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year programs.
